What it is doing, and what that means
01One zone warm while the other holds its number?
If bottles are pressed to the back of that zone, or a warm case just went in, and it recovers within a daySafe to wait
Cold air has to circulate. Leave space behind the last row.
If the racks are clear, the door seals, and that zone keeps slipping day after dayCall (425) 321-3414
Each zone has its own system, so one side can fail alone: its fan, its sensor or its sealed system. Readings decide which.
02Both zones warm, and the unit hardly rests?
If the top grille is grey with dust and both zones recover within a day of the condenser clean Sub-Zero describesSafe to wait
Power off at the control panel and wear gloves; a louvered grille's screws are reached with the door open. Repeat every three to six months.
If the condenser is clean, the room is at its usual warmth, and both zones stay highCall (425) 321-3414
Two independent systems slipping together is unusual. We check what they share before either sealed system.
03Panel dark, or lights that stay off?
If the display reads OFF, or the lights stay dark after UNIT ON/OFF was held for ten secondsSafe to wait
One touch of UNIT ON/OFF restores power; holding it sets Sabbath mode, which disables the lights until you press it again.
If the breaker is on, the key does nothing and the panel stays blankCall (425) 321-3414
The control and its wiring are our side of the line.
A column that breathes at the top
Owners who know the 427 look at the kickplate of a 430 and find nothing to clean. Its condenser sits up top, so a soffit, a stored box or a panel added later can starve it; Sub-Zero says decorative panels must not cover louvered surfaces.
Two systems, two readings
A 430 can lose one zone and keep the other perfect. Lay a thermometer among the bottles of each zone, door shut for two hours, and bring us both readings beside both panel numbers. The newest 430 is from 2009, which is why the cost page sets the replacement range beside the compressor line.
Wait or call: the 430
| What it is doing | Check first | Safe to wait if | Call if |
|---|---|---|---|
| SERVICE lit on the display | The condenser behind the top grille | It goes out after the clean | It returns, or a zone stays off its setting |
| Bell flashing, a beep | The door shut; no warm load just added | It stops once the zone recovers | It flashes again with nothing changed |
| Fog inside the glass | The door sealing all round | It follows a damp spell and clears shut | It stays with the door closed |
| Warm after a gathering | Lights left on all night | It recovers once they are off | It stays warm with the lights off |

If it is doing something else
Each page forks on what that unit is most often brought to us for, so the answer to a different symptom may sit next door: the Sub-Zero IW-30, the Sub-Zero IW-24 and the Sub-Zero IW-18. All of them price on the same cost page.
Asked about the 430
- Where is the condenser on a Sub-Zero 430?
- At the top, behind the grille, not at the foot as on the 424 and 427. Turn power off at the control panel, open the door for the grille screws or lift off a panel grille, wear gloves and brush along the fins. If both zones stay warm afterwards, ring Sub-Zero Repair Woodinville on (425) 321-3414.
